Melinda Abendroth is a versatile and skilled musician experienced in contemporary extended techniques and specializing in historical performance practice for the flute. Her performance on historical flutes is enriched by her experience in recorder consort, viol consort, singing, and historical dance.
She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, the United States, and Taiwan. Notable recent performance venues include Église Saint Antoine (Cordes-sur-Ciel, France), Ringve Musikmmuseum (Trondheim, Norway), Handel & Hendrix House (London, England) and Hsinchu County Youth Chinese Orchestra (Hsinchu, Tiawan).
Last year she was selected to perform with her chamber group Ensemble Cupis in the Blackheath Early Music Festival’s Young Artist Showcase. As part of the 2019 Royal College of Music Consort 21 Melinda premiered a new work “Sonata, for Electronics and Baroque Ensemble” by Feiwan Ho. She also performed with the 2019 Royal College of Music Renaissance Flute Consort for the Anne Bolyn Music Book Celebration, a special event for the newly bound Music Book and recently published facsimile of the manuscript from the Royal College of Music’s collection.
Melinda was awarded an Honorable Mention with the 2019 Royal College of Music Renaissance Flute Consort in the 2019 Historical Performance Ensemble Competition at the Royal College of Music. In 2013 as a member of the 2013 Cornish Piano Trio, Melinda was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Washington State, Music Teacher National Association Chamber Music Competition.
A Pacific Northwest native, Melinda has recently returned to Seattle from London where she earned a Masters of Historical Music Performance from the Royal College of Music under the guidance of Rachel Brown. She also holds an Artist Diploma in Early Music from Cornish College of the Arts were she studied with Janet See. Melinda received her Bachelor of Music from Cornish College of the Arts where her primary instructor was Paul Taub. She has taken masterclasses with Wilbert Hazelzet, Georgia Brown, Benjamin Bagby, Molly Barth, Clair Chase, Anne La Berge, Robert Aitken, and Robert Dick.
