Dr. Colleen Kennedy is a teacher/performer who has taught in the Seattle area for more than 22 years. She received her D.M.A. and M.M. from the University of Washington, where she studied with Robin McCabe.
An active performer of solo and chamber repertoire, Colleen has appeared with the Honolulu Symphony, the Eastside Symphony in Bellevue, and the Federal Way Philharmonic. She has won a number of scholarships and prizes, including the UW’s Brechemin scholarship and the Morning Music Club competition. She has also played for many internationally-recognized artists, including John Kimura-Parker, Juho Pohjonen and Jerome Rose.
Colleen has been on the faculty of the Epiphany Music Academy for four years and also owns a studio in Ballard. Previously, she taught secondary piano classes and lessons as a teaching assistant at the UW. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Seattle Music Teachers Association.
Students at the Kennedy studio regularly achieve high marks and honors at the Seattle Young Artists Festival, Seattle Music Teachers’ Association and other adjudications. Colleen’s students have also won or placed in local competitions, including the Viennese Classical festival, the Bach festival, and the Contemporary festival.
Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Colleen began piano lessons at the age of 6 and at 12 began studying with acclaimed teacher Ellen Masaki. She credits her early exposure to music with developing valuable life skills and strives to make sure her students are similarly “wired for success.”
